A fresh start

It’s the start of a new year, out with the old and in with the new!  Happy New Year and wishing all members of the Interworld family all the best for 2023 – may it be your best year yet.

As we welcome a new year, we are thinking about starting afresh, how to take the bull by the horns and give it our best shot, in order to make it a year to remember!  Perhaps we can take some guidance from how they do this in different cultures around the world. So we have listed some global new years and cleaning traditions below that could help.

Cleaning myth & traditions

In Japanese superstitious beliefs, cleaning the toilet can bring good fortune and even make you more beautiful. Don’t risk it, keep that toilet clean and hygienic this year! After being revived by a publication in Japan recently, this superstition sparked a toilet cleaning craze!  Read more here: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-japan-luck-idUST27109220070301

If you plan on moving this year, in US tradition, it’s bad luck to bring an old broom into a new house.  So before you move in, make sure to get a new broom! We found a great broom for $7 here and cleaning is important, so make sure to move in style!

A US proverb leads us to believe that not making your bed in the morning leads to a bad night’s sleep. With this in mind, make sure to straighten those crinkles every morning, you need to be on top of things to make 2023 your best year yet!

This tradition, or rather superstition, involves laundry.  According to ancient myth, if you wear something new on new years day you are more likely to have new clothes in the coming year and if you do your laundry on new years day you are more likely to have more laundry to do in the coming year.

It’s good to make a lot of noise when you welcome in the new year, so don’t worry too much about noise pollution at your party, rather enjoy the good luck it brings!  You can focus on keeping those noise levels under control during the rest of the year, read more on how here: https://education.nationalgeographic.org/resource/noise-pollution

In a South American myth, it is believed that if you sweep over someone’s feet with a broom they will stay single. Perhaps you should get us in to do your sweeping?  We are professional sweepers and will make sure to keep in you the game by not sweeping over your feet!
